Divemaster certification is PADI's first members' level, the first rung on the ladder of professional diving. The course includes intensive dive theory knowledge development, and the honing of diving skills to demonstration quality.
During the course, students complete a rescue evaluation and underwater mapping exercises as well as practicing and demonstrating skills in dive planning and leadership.
After certification, PADI divemasters may teach and certify PADI Skin Divers, conduct the PADI Discover Snorkeling program, the PADI Scuba Review program for certified divers, and teach the PADI Emergency First Response course as well as functioning as instructors' assistants both in confined and open water.

The completion of the Divemaster course is a prerequisite to enrolment in a PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) leading to certification as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.

The Instructor Development pathway begins with the PADI Divemaster Course and is the first professional level in the PADI system.
Your journey into dive leadership starts here - Dare to be challenged!
The PADI Divemaster Course consists of three modules: Knowledge Development, Water Skills and Stamina, and Practical Application.
You'll probably progress through all three modules simultaneously, based upon the course schedule you and your instructor agree upon.
During the Divemaster Course you will develop leadership skills and professional-level dive knowledge and abilities.
Earning the PADI Divemaster Certification distinguishes you as both an accomplished diver and a leader, at the doorstep of becoming an instructor if that interests you.
